What is CBN?
Vernon FlemingFebruary 14, 2020

With cannabis legalization becoming more accepted in recent times many people have heard of THC and CBD, which are two of the cannabinoids found in many cannabis strains. However, to many patients' surprise, these aren't the only beneficial cannabinoids produced by these amazing flowers.

Cannabinol, otherwise known as CBN is a lesser-known but versatile cannabinoid that can be used for a variety of effects. Learning about how your cannabis intake, and specifically your cannabinoid intake, will affect you is extremely important whether using cannabis as a patient or for other adult uses.

What are CBN's effects?

CBN is a mildly psychoactive cannabinoid found in trace amounts in cannabis. CBN is a unique and dynamic cannabinoid because it is present when the cannabinoid THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) ages, and its concentration increases as the flower ages and oxidizes through exposure to oxygen In studies and as reported by an increasing number of patients and consumers, CBN has been shown to have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, and has also been known to have analgesic, anti-insomnia and anti-convulsive effects. Additional studies show this astonishing cannabinoid can be concentrated and used to fight off bacterial infections that regular antibiotics can't heal. Similar to THC, CBN can also be considered an appetite stimulant that could give you the munchies when consumed. CBN has also been seen used effectively by medical patients as it helps to reduce intraocular pressure which is the biggest risk factor for glaucoma.

While reasonable to think that CBN would have similar sedative effects in high doses as its THC counterpart, CBN is a non-drowsy, non-intoxicating cannabinoid. Though, CBN coupled with THC has been known to give an increased euphoric effect that may have contributed to the belief of its intoxicating effect. If you'd like to experience the benefits of CBN without a strong psychoactive high, find a strain that has a high CBN low THC content. Animal Cookies, Ace of Spades, and Magic Jordan have all been known to contain this amazing cannabinoid.
